Texas Hold’em

In holdem, players receive two downcards as their personal hand (holecards), after which there is a round of betting. Three boardcards are turned simultaneously (called the “flop”) and another round of betting occurs. The next two boardcards are turned one at a time, with a round of betting after each card.

Omaha Hi/Lo

Omaha Hi/Lo, or also known as Omaha 8 or better, is the second form of poker that comprises HORSE.  Omaha 8 is a split pot poker game, meaning at the end of the hand, the pot may be split.  It is a much different poker game then No Limit Hold Em, in fact many No Limit Hold Em players say their worst poker game is Omaha 8.

Razz

Razz is the third form of poker that comprises the game of HORSE. Razz is a form of Stud poker, where players draw cards and there are no community cards like in Hold Em and Omaha. Like all other games in HORSE, Razz is a limit poker game. In Razz, players start with 2 cards facing down and one card facing up.

Seven Card Stud

Seven Card Stud is the 4th game that makes up HORSE. It is a limit poker game that plays exactly like Razz, except the best 5 card poker hand wins the pot, unlike razz where the best 5 card low hand wins the pot. At Stud tables, 8 players can play at once. All betting and card formation is the same as in Razz, so there are no community cards like in No Limit Hold Em and Omaha.

Stud 8 or Better

Stud 8 or Better, sometimes known as Stud hi/lo, is the 5th and final form of poker which makes up the game of HORSE. Stud 8 is also a split pot poker game like Omaha 8 and is a limit poker game like all of the other poker games in HORSE. In theory, Stud 8 is a combination of Razz, Stud and Omaha 8. The hands is dealt like in Razz and Stud.
