With his bright red hair blazing and his trademark dark glasses practically sizzling, Bertrand “ElkY” Grospellier tore through Event #43 in the 2009 WCOOP Series, earning himself a nifty new bracelet and a whopping $263,323.20 prize.

WCOOP Series’ Event #43

With 9,220 people signing up for this year’s $215 buy-in no-limit hold’em Event #43 in the PokerStars WCOOP Series, the prize pool rose to an amazing $1,844,000 – that’s almost double the promised $1 million prize money. It also marks the eight time in the history of this series that the prize pool actually exceeded the $1.5 million mark. However, of those 9,220 people who signed up, only the top 1,360 finishers would be able to dip their fingers into the pot.

Nine and a half hours into the festivities, the 9,220 players had dwindled down to a mere 250. By then, Grospellier was in 12th place, with his PokerStars teammates, Victor Ramdin and Barry Greenstein in 22nd and 90th places, respectively. It was only at the 11 and a half hour mark that Grospellier found himself in second place. LakersGTD was in the lead by then and nearing the $200,000 mark. But Grospellier “ElkY” was close behind and was soon able to overtake LakersGTD.

After the 16 and a half hour mark, though, LakersGTD found himself bumped from the table, finishing in 10th place. The final 9 players were finally decided, with ElkY in 3rd and jm18 in 1st place. But you know how it is with these poker games – anything can happen. And soon, ElkY found himself facing off with jetkiss as the final two players. It was a flurry of hands, of raising and calling – it was undoubtedly one of the most exciting games in this year’s WCOOP Series. But finally, after a grueling game, ElkY emerged in first place, securing the win for the PokerStars team and netting the $263 thousand dollar prize. But most importantly, he was able to nab another bracelet for this year’s WCOOP, his second one after winning event #38.

What’s Next for ElkY?

Bertrand “ElkY” Grospellier’s name has been under the spotlight in the world of online poker for years. Unsurprising, considering his stellar record in winning tournament after tournament. So we better watch out for that, because it’s sure to be an exciting event with ElkY at his finest.
