The world held its breath as, one by one, the poker pros in the final table of the WSOP 2009 dropped like flies. Then, finally, only two were left: Darvin Moon, 45-year old logger from Maryland, and Joe Cada, 21-year old poker pro just barely over the legal drinking age. The tension was thick and the action intense, but one had to come out as the ultimate champion for the 2009 World Series of Poker. Who the victor would be was anyone’s guess. Until, in a heightened fit of pure drama and suspense, the cards emerged in favor of Cada, who was then hailed as the 2009 WSOP Champion, the youngest ever to win the title.

Darvin Moon Takes the First Half

For the match between Cada and Moon, ‘starting slow’ was practically impossible. Darvin moon is an aggressive player, and he laid it on thick from the very start. Cada held a pair of nines while Moon had pocket queens. The flop came out as 3S KS 2D. And the turn came out as an AD. Cada checked, and Moon raised to 10 million dollars. This amount was simply astonishing and the crowd was thoroughly impressed. But Cada fought on, and both of them checked. They showed their cards, but unfortunately for Cada, Moon was the winner in this round, raking up a very sizable chip boost. This was to be the beginning of Moon’s acquisition of the chip lead. His aggressive playing style thoroughly overwhelmed Cada, who was undoubtedly the more inexperienced of the two. The crowd was already beginning to think that this heads up match was as good as done, with Moon having won 14 of the 21 hands that were played.

Cada Takes Over

Then, just when it seemed like all was lost, Cada began to take charge. He held a hand of JH9D, while Moon held 7S8S. The flop was 10C5D9H. The hand started out normal enough, with both players checking. Then, 10D was revealed on the turn, prompting Cada to make a bet of 3 million. True to his aggressive playing style, Moon announced that he was all in, paving the way for the single most important decision that Cada had to make in his career as a poker player. The tension was so thick that you could practically cut it with a knife. Cada, seeing the gravity of the decision that was dumped on him, took a sip of water before announcing that he called. They both revealed their cards, and it was instantly seen that Moon would need a 6 or a Jack to finally claim the title. But it was not to be, as the river came out as 3H, giving Cada a chip lead of 108 million chips.

Cada’s game was perfectly steady from then on, until finally, he was on the brink of becoming the champion. Cada had pocket 9s, while Moon only had QDJD. The crowd was in an uproar, everybody in the poker world was waiting to see what the flop would come out as. Then, when the flop was revealed as 8C, 2C, 7S, Cada knew he was one step closer to victory. The suspense was nearly overwhelming; Moon stood up and simply stared blankly at the table, while Cada ran to the stands, clutching the arms of a friend of his in trepidation. Then, a KH was revealed in the turn, giving Moon a fighting chance. Moon would need a Queen or a Jack to prevent Cada from totally seizing all the chips. Then, with the tension in the whole room so thick, the dealer very slowly revealed the river. The world was at an absolute standstill. Then, it was revealed: a 7C! The crowd went wild, Cada was the new WSOP Champion.
