Joining the ranks of poker’s elite, Mike Sexton has been elected as the 38th member of the Poker Hall of Fame. He was able to fit the criteria for joining the HoF fully and was wholeheartedly accepted by his peers. But getting to the Poker HoF wasn’t an easy task. Sexton had to face tough competitors for the privilege, the likes of Barry Greenstein and Phil Ivey. But among the nine nominees, Sexton was the only one who was chosen.

Dazzling Credentials

And no wonder he was chosen. Mike Sexton has amazing credentials – and if they can’t give anyone passage to the Hall of Fame, then I don’t know what can. For one, Sexton won more than $3.7 million just through his poker games. He also owns one WSOP Bracelet for the Seven Card Stud and was the 2006 WSOP Tournament of Champions Winner. But his contributions to the game don’t stop there. Sexton served as an announcer for the World Poker Tour, regaling viewers and pros alike with his encyclopedic knowledge of the game. With him on the commentator’s seat, the viewers don’t have to flop around like ignoramuses, wondering what exactly is going on with all the high-speed action in the poker tables.

Furthermore, Sexton is well-liked among all his peers and enjoys their full respect. He’s a high-roller with a consistent win rate, making him a formidable foe in the tables. Also, his career path has been solidly set on the road of poker for about 30 years and it seems like it will continue to do so for a long time to come.

Commitment to Peace

But probably more impressive than all of Mike’s achievements in the world of Poker is his commitment to Philanthropy. Mike has said that if he could change anything in the world, he would bring peace and also the end of poverty. Sure enough, he backs all his word up action, proving himself to be one of the most generous players in the field. One of his most well-known acts was donating half of the $1 million prize that he won from the WSOP Tournament of Champions to several different charities. He also promised to do the same for any of his future winnings. Furthermore, Mike Sexton – along with Linda Johnson, Lisa Tenner, and Jan Fisher – created pokergives.org, a non-profit organization that provides poker players with an easy and simple way to give to charity. He also continues to promote the game and its positive side, making him truly deserving of his title as the “Ambassador of Poker”.
