Up until now, little is known about the poker superstar, Phil Ivey, except for the fact that he has monstrous skills on the felt. But on the coming issue of ESPN the Magazine, we finally get to find out a little more about one of our favorite poker pros. Phil Ivey will be on the cover of the magazine and it will feature an extensive article on Phil’s personal life as well as some interesting insights on his skills and talent as a poker player.

Phil Ivey: The Pro

Of course, you can’t talk about Phil Ivey without talking about poker. This issue has several tidbits about Phil’s life as a poker player, his skills and his talents. Phil reveals that, as a player, his game’s not about the mathematics, it’s more of a psychological endeavor. He picks up on minute changes in expression, little signs that others would not normally notice. Furthermore, Phil talks about his thoughts and feelings about the upcoming tournament. He says that, should he win, it would be his biggest accomplishment yet. But then again, though he wants to win, he’s not obsessed with it. This could prove to be an advantage, as he will be on the right frame of mind when he does enter the field. Phil also talks about his preparations for the game and proves that playing poker is also, in part, a physical endeavor. He does cardio, weight lifting, golf, and yoga in order to put himself in the best shape for the main event.

Phil Ivey: The Man

Phil, despite his superstar status, is one who naturally shuns the spotlight. He is someone who values his privacy and protects it well. His activities outside the world of poker are usually done without public exposure, and when he does appear in the headlines of a publication, you can expect that the article will be about his game and nothing else. But, in this issue of ESPN the Magazine, fans get to see a side of Ivey that he’s never revealed before. We get to see what he’s like and what he does when he’s not holding a bunch of cards and shoving chips. The ESPN writer was invited to share a day with Phil Ivey and to see just how the poker pro spends his day. They even flew on Phil’s private jet and went to some of the most exotic and exclusive locations in the world.

You curious now? Well, hold your horses, we’ll all have to wait until the magazine issue hits the newsstands on November 2 to find out more about Ivey.
