The whole world’s in a hype about the WSOP especially with all the intense action centering around the final table. It was like all the energy and all the focus of the wonderful world of poker was focused on the fateful day of November 9. Well, that’s not quite true. Elsewhere, there were two pros who got together and planned a 500k live challenge, due to be played next Monday in London. Ilari “Ziigmund” Sahamies and Tom “Durrrr” Dwan will clash in a live PLO Heads Up match.
The Challenge
This PLO Heads Up match is like a live version of the Durrrr challenge, with one very distinct difference: It will NOT take forever to end. The challenge itself has pretty simple rules. They will play a total of 500 hands and neither player can quit before this total is reached or if the buy-in, which is $500,000 is completely depleted. The challenger, which in this case is Ziigmund, gets to choose between No Limit Hold’em or Pot Limit Omaha. Of course, since Ziigmund is a renowned Pot Limit expert, then he simply chose the latter.
Ziigmund Says
Ziigmund said in his blog that he took up the challenge and that he’s pretty excited to play against Durrrr. He states that it would be fun to play against a good friend and further says that the game will certainly be interesting, as his opponent is one of the best PLO players in the world, and is quite possibly ranked at the top three.
Ziigmund also revealed that he will not be playing in this year’s highstakespoker. Apparently, he was supposed to play, but was a bit late in telling the show’s producers about his intentions and was thus unable to get a spot. It’s a regrettable development, especially since Ziigmund is one of the most interesting poker players today. Ziigmund, however, was not fazed at all by this unfortunate event and went on to say that “heads up might be even more interesting than that [insert expletive here] highstakespoker”.
Interesting the heads up game would certainly be, but to Ilari “Ziigmund” Sahamies, even that isn’t the most exciting thing that’s bound to happen to him. He reveals that he’s looking forward to the after-party (which might be held in Jalouse or in some other night club) more than the heads up. But that’s nothing remarkable, as Ilari has always been quite famous for his party-animal image. One thing’s for sure, though, with such an epic clash of PLO titans, fans sure have something great to look forward to.
