PokerStars World Championships of Online Poker is set to begin on September 3rd, 2009.  This annual event is online poker’s version of the World Series of Poker.  The WCOOP is similar to the FTOPS series’ run by Full Tilt Poker, but PokerStars WCOOP is bigger, better and only happens once a year.  Don’t miss out!  There is over $40 Million up for grabs over the 45 events and 17 days.  These tournaments are the biggest you can find online with the champion of each tourney taking home at least $50K and the main event handing out over $1 Million to first place.

Tournaments

There are 45 events in the 2009 WCOOP so as you can imagine there are a wide range of buy-ins and poker game types.  The tournament buy-ins range from as little as $109 to as much as $25,500.  The huge $25K tourney is a heads up tournament with 64 seats available.  It is obviously one of the three high roller events included in the WCOOP.  The other two are the $10.3K no limit hold’em tourney and the $10.3K HORSE tournament.  Every variety of poker game you can think of has a tournament in the WCOOP.  Rare games such as 8-game, fixed limit badugi, five card draw, and fixed limit triple draw two to seven are all included, plus many more interesting game variations.

Prizes

On top of the huge cash prizes that will be handed out the winner of each WCOOP event receives a limited edition WCOOP gold bracelet.

$1.5 Million in Free Entries

PokerStars is putting up $1,500,000 in free WCOOP tournament entries that VIP Club members can win by playing in FPP satellites at PokerStars.  To find these satellites click ‘Events’ – ‘WCOOP’ – ‘FPP Satellites’ in your PokerStars software.

Satellites

PokerStars is running satellites into each of the WCOOP events from as little as $1 or 100 Frequent Player Points.  There are a ton of satellites running at all times during the day and if you have a smaller bankroll, winning your WCOOP seats via satellite might be your best option.

TV Coverage

PokerStars.tv will provide highlights and analysis of key hands for each event.  David Tuckman and Nick Wealthall will walk viewers through every tournament providing commentary on all big hands.
The PokerStars WCOOP has a very rich history with many big name poker players emerging onto the poker scene after winning a WCOOP event.  This year is sure to be no different.  Watch for the up and coming superstars of tomorrow to pull off some huge wins and for some proven players to continue to show why they are the best in the world.
