Luke “_FullFlush1_” Schwartz has just been introduced to the ranks of men and women who learned – painfully – that not all publicity is good. If his potty mouth wasn’t enough to get him into real trouble, then a simple sandwich certainly was. That whole fiasco involving the unpaid for sandwich might cost him the chance to play at the Final Table in PartyPoker World Open V this coming Thursday.
The Infamous Sandwich Incident
For the sake of those who still don’t know, Schwartz is a loud-mouthed high-stakes poker player from London. He’s obnoxious and he’s rude and he’s proud of it. In fact, he’s the self-proclaimed “villain” of poker. Ever since his debut, he has been badmouthing other players, throwing insults left and right, and just being a plain pain. Of course, that’s not exactly the best way to make a name. Most people were just annoyed by him, especially since, though he’s a good player in his own right, he’s not really “right up there” with the other pros. He lost a lot of respectability and credibility just by the way he acted, and a lot of people were of the opinion that he should be interviewed not by the media but by a psychiatrist.
But it was his last stunt that cost him a whole lot more. He was banned from the Vic Casino when he refused to take off his cap. A friend of his pulled some strings and got the ban lifted, allowing him to play for the EPT. But the whole cap incident was not the worst of it. As if he wasn’t in hot water already, Schwartz refused outright to pay for a sandwich that he ordered. Full of an unreasonable sense self importance, he claimed that he was a VIP and was thus entitled to the said sandwich. He was obviously wrong, because the casino did not hesitate to have him escorted out of the establishment and banned from the whole tournament altogether. No strings could pull him out of that hole, and even now, he’s still suffering from the repercussions of his impudent action.
A Sad Case of Lost Trust
Perhaps if Schwartz could have waited until his name got a bit bigger before he pulled a stunt like that, then he could have gotten away with it. Now, we’ll never know, because he’s already paying for his sandwich – and it’s costing him a lot. In fact, it’s costing him too much. It might even cost him the chance to win $250,000. In the PartyPoker World Open V, Schwartz was able to participate, but then he had to be escorted the whole time by security. Wherever he went, his escort went with him. But escort or no, Schwartz was able to prove that he really had talent and managed to worm his way into the Final Table. But then, a spokesperson from PartyPoker announced that they are not yet sure if Schwartz will actually be allowed to play. There’s no final decision as of yet, and some feel that it’s too harsh as Schwartz has been behaving well throughout this tournament.
