With the first season of “The Best Damn Poker” being such a huge success, it’s really no wonder that it’s now going into its second season. And what’s more, the show itself has widened its scope. No longer is it confined to America, it’s going to be aired on Europe on the TV Station called Poker Channel every Tuesday and Thursday beginning October 20.
What’s it About?
The show’s concept is simple and really nothing new. It’s like every one of those reality shows wherein two groups are mentored separately by two pros, and they battle each other out to see who is better. And of course, this is all done under the probing glare of the camera, thus exposing everything from the useful tidbits of information about technique and strategy to the not-so-useful but sometimes more interesting bits of drama. It’s just like the popular reality show, The Apprentice, but in “The Best Damn Poker”, the target audience is obviously the ever-growing fan base of the game of poker. In the show, two teams will be mentored by Annie Duke and Phil Hellmuth respectively. They will then meet for each episode and battle it out. The show will run for seven episodes in all, and in each episode, a player will be eliminated. The audience will also be treated on some commentaries by the poker pro on how the hands were played, which were the good moves and which were the bad ones, and other similar information. And, no doubt, with Phil Hellmuth on the microphone, we can be pretty certain that there will be lots of colorful quips that are more than enough to keep “The Best Damn Poker” interesting.
The Incentives
The contestants were chosen through an online qualifier. They were asked to make youtube videos and other gimmicks that simply had to stand out from thousands and thousands of entries just to get in. Of course, if one’s going to subject himself to Phil Hellmuth’s motor mouth, there must be an incentive, right? So what has gotten the contestants to sign up exactly? Well, aside from lots of TV time and a claim to fame, there will also be a package to the WSOP and a ticket to the Aruba Poker Classic to be won. The winner will automatically enjoy a fast rise in popularity – and fan base – and will find many doors of opportunity open to him after the show. After all, anyone who manages to get the approval of both Annie Duke and Phil Hellmuth must be worth his salt.
